About Me

A little bit of background

My name is Sally and have been based around Oban for the last 10 years, with stints working abroad.

I have a BSc in Engineering from Edinburgh University, which I followed up with a PGCE in Secondary Maths at Northern College, Aberdeen.  More recently, I completed an MSc in Operational Research (the use of analytical techniques to improve decision making) from Strathclyde University in 2014, graduating with a Distinction.  A large part of the course was spent working on real-life projects.  Highlights of these include:

  • automating an Excel spreadsheet that was used to allocate daily milk deliveries for a large UK dairy co-operative.  This cut the daily processing time down from approximately 2 hours to 15 minutes.
  • designing a range of shift systems for the stores department of an industrial organisation, for a period of time when it needed to provide additional cover.

I am a firm believer that the techniques learnt during my Masters degree are just as applicable to small and medium businesses as they are to the big corporate organisations.  As such, I have returned home to Oban and am keen to support the SMEs in Argyll, from start-ups to established businesses.  I will work with you to help you identify where savings can be made, which could be cash-based or time-based.

There's more to me than just work!

I have always had an interest in the outdoors.  I am a keen sailor, and spent a few years as an RYA Yachtmaster Instructor teaching people to sail the waters around Oban and the Hebrides.  I learnt to play golf 5 years ago, and can often be found on the course (or in the rough!) at Taynuilt.  I also own 2 classic motor bikes, and when the weather is good I like to potter about the quiet back roads.
